Camping in the Eureka area

Northwest Montana has great oppurtunities for camping. There are primitive and established campgrounds to be found all over the Eureka and Tobacco Valley area.

A few suggestions would be hiking into wolverine Lakes (a cabin and fishing spots), driving up Grave Creek Road to Big and Little Therriault Lakes (established campsites, facilities, RV parking), or Rexford Bench.

Proper camping gear is important. Don't forget a good supply of matches (Montana nights are cool-to-cold all year long). A coleman stove is great for cooking and far more stable than a campfire. A tent to keep the bugs out is preferred unless you are prepared with bug spray. An extra shirt and long sleeves will be welcomed when the sun sets. The coolness doesn't seem to bother the local mosquitoes! We also recommend carrying bear spray. Bears can show up anytime in Montana and having some kind of protection or deterrent gives one peace of mind.

We sell a variety of camping supplies here at Northwest Sports Center, though you may wish to call ahead if you have specific items in mind. We keep the basics for fishing, hunting, and camping and a good supply of bear spray on hand. We are here to help you have an enjoyable camping experience, so feel free to stop in and ask questions.
